The Requirement

To ensure the safety of employees and visitors by enhancing both indoor and outdoor safety measures at key points to direct traffic and pedestrian flow and mitigate potential hazards.

The Challenges

• Durability and Weather-Proofing: Safety equipment must endure the rigors of daily use and withstand varying weather conditions without significant degradation. This challenge involves selecting materials and designs that maintain functionality and safety integrity over time, even in harsh environmental conditions.
• Compatibility with Existing Infrastructure: Safety enhancements must fit seamlessly with current structures and systems, requiring detailed planning and design considerations.
• Specific Needs of Different Areas: Different parts of a facility may have unique safety requirements, making it challenging to select products that adequately address all areas.
• Future-proofing: With safety regulations and technology continually evolving, selecting products that remain effective and compliant over time is crucial.

The Solution

After evaluating the challenges and July requirements, Unilever selected a few key products, including the Recessed Rail Warehouse Barrier, Shock Absorbing Bollards, Height Bars, Surex Heavy Duty Floor Angle and  Column Cushion.

The Recessed Rail Warehouse Barrier offers the following features:

• Enhanced Durability: Fully galvanised system withstands weather and corrosive materials.
• Superior Strength: Recessed rail design provides increased rigidity, leveraging the strength of heavy wall posts.
• Easy Installation: Designed for simple, one-person installation, reducing labour costs and time.
• Safety Features: Non-trip faceplates and optional handrails and kick plates enhance pedestrian safety and prevent objects from obstructing walkways.
• Versatile Application: Suitable for both indoor warehouse spaces and outdoor areas like car parks and loading docks, ensuring comprehensive safety coverage.

The  Shock Absorbing Bollards offers the following features:

• Impact Resistance: Capable of tilting, side-shifting, and rotating to absorb shocks, minimising damage.
• Durability: Made from heavy-duty hot-dipped galvanised steel with a 5mm wall thickness for long-lasting performance.
• Visibility: Features high-visibility yellow HDPE covers, enhancing safety and awareness in high-traffic areas.
• Sturdy Design: The bollard's dimensions and weight ensure stable anchoring, offering reliable protection against vehicle impacts.

The Height Bars offer the following features:

• Durability: Constructed from galvanised steel with a yellow powder coat and reflective markings, ensuring long-term resilience and weather resistance.
• Visibility: Reflective hazard markings make these height bars easily noticeable, reducing collision risks.
• Customisation: Available in sizes from 1m to 6m with customisable clearance height text, allowing for tailored safety messaging.
• Installation Ease: Comes with galvanized chain and D-shackles for quick and straightforward installation, facilitating immediate safety improvements.

The Surex Heavy Duty Floor Angle offers the following features:

• Asset Protection: Designed to prevent pallets and other items from encroaching into vehicle or pedestrian paths, safeguarding against accidents and ensuring smoother operations.
• Infrastructure Safety: By shielding vital structures like pillars, walls, and guard rails from potential impacts, these angles help protect your investment in infrastructure and reduce repair costs.
• Durability: These floor angles can withstand the harsh conditions of busy industrial environments, ensuring long-term reliability.
• High Visibility: With a powder-coated Safety Yellow finish, these floor angles are easily visible, enhancing safety by alerting vehicle and pedestrian traffic to potential hazards.

The Column Cushion offers the following features:

• Impact Absorption: Equipped with a foam-filled LDPE polyethylene exterior, they cushion columns against impacts, preserving structural integrity and minimising potential damage.
• Long-Lasting Protection: These protectors are UV stabilized, chemical resistant, non-conductive, and bounce back to shape after impacts, offering enduring protection against various environmental factors.
• Flexible Application: Suitable for both square and round columns up to 300mm in diameter, their design accommodates diverse column structures, broadening their applicability across different settings.
• Simple Installation: The kit includes Velcro straps for easy assembly, enabling quick, tool-free installation that doesn’t require professional help, thus saving time and reducing installation costs.
