How should I Install Rubber Speed Hump?
Why do Area Safe Products’ Humpex™ Rubber Speed Bumps last so long even in high traffic environments? There are a number of reasons for this as follows:
- Product: Highest quality materials – Humpex Heavy Duty Rubber Speed Humps (03-HSD500 & 03-HSD250) are manufactured with a combination of virgin rubber and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). This provides the correct consistency for flexibility, density (hardness) and tensile strength.
- Positioning: Where possible leave about 3m between a speed calmer and a corner where vehicles will turn their wheels. (For other positioning tips, an Area Safe speed hump installation guide is available).
- Fastening: How a speed hump is installed is the next most important ingredient in how long it will last in situ. On a bitumen (asphalt/ hot-mix surface) make sure a sealant adhesive is put in the fastener holes to prevent water ingress. On both bitumen and concrete surfaces, the application of sealant adhesive on the underside of the speed hump takes ‘push/pull’ pressure off the fastening points which in turn helps the rubber around the fixings last longer.
